ford 4610 serial number

ok guys heres a tough one. I'm looking at a repainted 1990 Ford 4610 II SU tractor but the serial number is weird it says *BC38268*. Its says this both on the sticker and main frame. It also has the rops of the 3930 series. Its supposedly a 1 owner tractor with 2800 hours. What is the deal as this number doesn't match up? Also, what do the other numbers tell you? If this is a very late model does it still have the 201 engine and are there any other improvements? Thanks for your help.

The model suggests it's a 46xx. Given the date codes suggest it's a 1990 model and the 30 series tractors were introduced in the fall of '89... I'd say it's a 4630.
Does it have a SU axle with radius rods and power assist steering (dual PS cylinders on the drag links) or a fully hydrostatic system with a cylinder mounted transversly on the axle?

I suspect someone just put the wrong decals on it...

clintwyscarver Hello,

Just looking and do you mean this number (SN) doesn"t match up? Is this because you are trying to match your serial number to the american serial numbers.

This would be hard to do especially when it displays that the tractor was made it England.
Based upon your numbers what you have is a 1990 Ford Agriculture, Special Utility tractor.

This unit was made - hard to read- on February 14, 1990 in Basildon, England.

It has a 201 ci. 3 cylinder, 52 pto hp diesel engine with vertical exhaust, independent 540 pto, with an 8F x 2R manual transmission.

Let us know if you buy it and how it operates.

Be safe.

This makes perfect sense. I had this same issue with my 3930 as it was a 98 model made in England. Thanks so much for your help. What is this one worth? 2500 hours and everything works great. Steering is very tight and engine is very smooth. New paint and rear tires. Even has newer stabilizer system in back with slots for pin adjustments. Its a one owner that traded for new tractor. Local customer. The only thing that is missing is the cover below instrument panel which they are looking for now.

They were all made in the UK at that point in time...
Pictures show it to clearly be a 4610 SU. They must have continued that particular model for a period of time along with the 30 series tractors because the 30 seires never had a comparable model.
I'd guess that it's going to be in the 8-10K range for price and probably closer 10 if it's really as nice as you suggest.

well this is the issue. Hes looking for 11,500 for the tractor. Now that being said i just lost a 1982 with 3500 hours at a auction. It was a solid tractor with tight front end and strong engine but needed new wheels and tires at all 4 corners. Original paint which was decent. Wheels rusted out due to calcium and tires just wore out. That tractor went for 9k which blew me away. These tractors are very expensive it seems at least in the SE.

He might get it too. Personally I'd not be that attached to the SU. Truthfully, I hate those axles. For any more money than that I'd be looking for a decent 4630 or 5030 MFWD. Even a 5610, 5640, 6610 or 6640. You might get a larger tractor with more features for not a lot more money.
I don't know where that fits for you, but something to think about...
That SU does look nice if it fits your needs perfectly but I don't think I'd get too hung up on it for that money.

Yeah your right the axle is lighter duty but it turns tight. We do small food plots and these things make the perfect food plot tractor and can be towed easily from sight to sight. All the ones we've had are bullet proof and never brake down. Guess thats why they bring so much even when old.
