Just following up on a couple combine leads I got.... (thanks, pea grower). Had the pics for a couple weeks, just no time to post. Here's the first one, I think the engine is gone. Steering wheel reminds me of a boat...Also, someone used the (front) grain tank and fuel tank(?) for shotgun practice ...Anyone has an idea what model it might be? Couldn't find a serial or model number....

I think that made a #1 that was built like that problably others. Great grandpa had one like that dad still had the grain tank from it that he built a stand for. Dad said it had a Hercules engine and I imagine dad scrapped the thing long before my time. It was replaced by a new Super 27 Great grandpa bought still have the books for it.

Its amazing how well that stuff holds up in the west. If something that age were left out that long here in the east, you would be lucky to find any more than the heaviest iron parts.

Look on the frame above were the front wheel should be. The serial number is stamped in the frame. The first number of there serial number is also the model number. It looks like it mayebe a #5 or a #7. They are some much a like though its hard to tell by the picture.

If you want to restore this i know were one for parts is in oklahoma. Its in tough shape but it has alot of parts you would need. If you get me the serial number i can also look up the year it was made. A buddy of mine has parts catlouges for some of these old combines with serial numbers.

It looks a lot like my 5A. Any chance there is a header there? My combine is pretty complete, but I need some header parts.

Dave:
I may be able to help with header parts. There is a remnant of one on m farm in Kansas. I'd be glad to check the next time I go down there.
E-mail is open.

Keep your eyes open for this little fella, because it's probably my biggest concern.

It's the gearbox that is used to change the power direction to drive the reel. Most everything else is fixable, but this casting is broke and part of it missing. I e-mailed you to.
Thanks
David

I have a couple of these JD combines here with engines still on them and the front wheel assembly. No headers though. I'd sell you the Herc engines and parts you need or the whole combine. I bought them years ago for the galvanized sheet iron for another project I had.

Gosh, very tempting offer, but my money printing press is wearing out, and it looks like it is HEAVY and won't fit on regular trailer...transporting will be a challenge....even if it is only about 40+ miles from my place! And I "really" have not done any inquiry as to if it for sale....hint, hint.

There was an auction there 15-16 years ago and the wheel and header were there then, and there was a few old tractors there to and none of them were for sale at the auction, and all the other old stuff disappeared except for that much of the combine and then the tractors showed up at Sw Metal and I bought one of them

There is a lot (6-9 pieces) of today's farm equipment parked around it and itlooks like it is being still used.
BTW, do these pics look familiar? I was focusing in on the JDs (45/55/95???), but there is quite a bit other stuff, including several old tractors, at least one of them is a MM, around it..S of Gould...

Not really, no fence, no signs, right next to the right-a-way( literally a few yards), and good camera (wind though didn't help). Can't help it if my big feet hung over onto the (private) land on occasion though....LOL
Now, having said that, I would never walk deep into/onto someone's property or climb fences without getting permission first. And even then, I always park my vehicle next to the gate and highly visible, many times with a note on the dash who I am, what I am doing and who gave me permission, with cell number.
